A Long Beach New Year’s Resolution – The Farmer’s Market

Long Beach Farmer’s Market – Downtown
Many new year’s resolutions involve health.  People want a healthier lifestyle to feel better, look better, work better, sleep better, and so on.  Here is the list of top new year’s resolutions according to USA.gov

– Lose weight*
– Volunteer to help others*
– Quit smoking
– Get a better education
– Get a better job
– Save money*
– Get fit*
– Eat healthy food*
– Manage stress*
– Manage debt*
– Take a trip
– Reduce, reuse, and recycle*
– Drink less alcohol

To this aim I have a suggestion that can accomplish 8 of the top 13 resolutions in one fell swoop  (indicated by the *).  Simply shop for fruits and veggies at the local Long Beach farmer’s market.  Obviously this will help with losing weight, getting fit, and eating healthier foods, but keep in mind that it will also save you money if you make your own meals instead of eating out, and it will be helping a local small business and family (not necessarily the same as volunteering to help someone, but pretty close).  Saving money on your food costs can provide extra dollars to help making managing your debt easier.  Eating fruits and veggies instead of processed & packaged foods will help keep anxiety at bay and help with stress management.  And lastly, shopping for fruits and veggies at a farmer’s market will produce significantly less packaging waste than a typical grocery store shopping run.

Here is the Long Beach farmer’s market schedule:

Wednesdays:  SouthEast/Marine Stadium – Alamitos Bay Marina, E. Paoli Way
Thursdays:  Uptown/Bixby Knolls – Atlantic Ave. and 46th St
Fridays:  Downtown – 3rd St. Between Pacific Ave. and Cedar (free 2 hour parking on 3rd and Pine.
Sundays: SouthEast/CSULB – 5000 East Spring Street (at Clark Avenue)

We tend to go to the Wednesday and Sunday markets.  Hope to see you there!
